Headteacher’s Newsletter – June 26, 2026
Dear Parent/Carer,
Further to the news last week that the senior leadership of the school will continue next year, I would also like to share some additional details about staffing.
School Organisation for the Year Ahead
As part of our continued commitment to providing the very best for every child, we will be making some small changes to our class structure from September. These changes reflect the size of our cohorts and ensure we are using our staffing and resources in the most effective way.
As our school continues to grow and evolve, it is important that we remain flexible so that we can respond to changing needs while maintaining high standards for all pupils.
From September, classes will be organised as follows:
-
EYFS: Mrs Tullis
-
Key Stage 1: Miss Rice
-
Key Stage 2: Mrs Young
This structure, known as a mixed-age model, is widely used in schools of a similar size and is a very effective way of supporting children’s learning. It allows for strong relationships to develop, encourages collaboration between pupils, and ensures learning is carefully tailored to meet individual needs.
We are very well supported in delivering this approach. Through Sapientia Education Trust, the school will benefit from additional expertise and guidance to strengthen mixed-age teaching. This work has already begun and will continue into the new academic year. Highly skilled practitioners from across the trust will work alongside our staff, supporting planning, teaching and curriculum development to ensure the highest quality of education for all pupils.
Sapientia schools have very strong experience in this area, and many have recently been inspected while operating mixed-age classes, with positive outcomes. This gives us real confidence that this model, when delivered well, supports pupils to achieve highly and experience a broad, well-sequenced curriculum.
We will also be strengthening our wider team. Alongside Mrs Powley, Miss Patel and Mrs Vincent, we are appointing additional staff to further support learning and wellbeing. These roles include a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant, Teaching Assistants and a Pupil and Parent Support Advisor. This means we will have strong support both in the classroom and through targeted interventions.
We are in a very strong position going into September. Every class will be led by a permanent, qualified teacher, with no reliance on agency staff.
I am really excited about the year ahead. With a stable team, additional support, and the expertise we benefit from as part of the trust, we are continuing to build a strong and successful school for all our children
Transition days - 1st and 2nd of July
While our Year 6 pupils will be attending their transition days at the local high school, the rest of the school will be meeting their new teachers and engaging in a range of activities to prepare them for the next academic year.
This week, our school has been celebrating the fantastic theme his week, our theme is all about representation.
Representation means making sure everyone feels seen, heard, and included. It’s about recognising that we are all different—and celebrating those differences. When children see people like themselves in books, lessons, and the world around them, it helps them feel proud of who they are. When we learn about people who are different from us, it helps us to understand and respect one another.
The following pupils have been commended for their positive representation this week:
-
Reception – Maeve for her kind and poor contributions in class
-
Iceni – Archie has worked hard this week to support others in play and in class when they needed a friend to help them and he sort them out when they needed someone to play with.
-
Walsingham – Layla – Jo for talking positively about disabilities and sharing her feelings.
-
Ceres - Eleanor for making adults aware of what she needed and supporting children from younger classes when they needed a reminder to believe in themselves!
Secret Students
A student is chosen anonymously and randomly at the start of each school day. The class teacher will then monitor the positive behaviour of the secret student throughout the day and that student is named if they have demonstrated our school values throughout the day.
The secret students who were celebrated in our celebration assembly this week were:
Reception – Ruby-Mae
Year 1/2 – Pixie, Rocco, Emily, Albie
Year 3/4 – Seb, Stevie, Christian
Year 5/6 – Maryanne
Well done to you all!

Headteacher’s Memo – June 19, 2026
Dear Parent/Carer,
As we come towards the end of the academic year, I am delighted to share that both myself, as your Headteacher, and Ms Stuart, as Assistant Headteacher, will continue to lead Sacred Heart beyond this year and into the next academic year as we join Sapientia Education Trust.
A great deal of work has taken place this year, and together, as a school community, we have made significant progress. This is clearly reflected in our outcomes: our Year 1 phonics results show that the number of pupils achieving the expected standard has more than doubled, and many of our Year 2 pupils who did not meet this standard last year have now successfully reached it. In addition, our Early Years Foundation Stage data shows a marked improvement compared to previous years.
We now look ahead with confidence to the next stage of our school improvement journey. We are excited about the opportunities and developments that lie ahead as part of Sapientia Education Trust. In the coming weeks, the Trust will be writing to parents to share further information and to offer an opportunity for you to contribute to shaping the school’s future, including its values and name.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
This week, our school has been celebrating the fantastic theme of sportsmanship—and what better way to bring this to life than through our highly successful Sports Day. It was a truly memorable event, filled with energy, enthusiasm and a wonderful sense of community spirit.
Throughout the day, our pupils demonstrated not only determination and teamwork, but also the true values of sportsmanship: encouraging one another, showing respect to competitors and celebrating effort as much as achievement. It was inspiring to see so many children stepping out of their comfort zones, supporting their peers and taking pride in representing their houses.
We are incredibly proud of all our pupils for the positive attitudes they displayed, as well as grateful to staff and families who helped make the day such a success. Events like this remind us that sport is about far more than winning—it is about building character, resilience and a strong sense of fairness.
The following pupils have been commended for their ability to make healthy choices:
Reception – Skylah for taking part in every race, for never giving up and cheering on all her friends across the school.
Year 1/ 2 - Gaddiel for demonstrating wonderful sportsmanship when cheering on his peers during the races and encouraging them afterwards and before when others were struggling.
Year 3/ 4 – Dominik – fantastic achievements in Sports Day and cheering on and supporting his friends.
Year 5/6 - Sienna for ALWAYS encouraging older and younger children in their races and helping out during races when participants dropped equipment, fell over or needed support or encouragement.
Reception – Delilah, Rena, Vivienne, Evie
Year 1/2 – Liberty, Jennifer, Archie, Riley
Year 3/4 – Dominik, Amanda, Frankie
Year 5/6 – Eleanor, Tiana
Well done to you all!
Sacred Heart Sports Day 2026 – A Day to Remember!
What an incredible Sports Day we enjoyed at Sacred Heart!
The morning was packed with exciting activities designed to challenge, engage and inspire our children. Pupils took part in Zorb Football, Zorb Javelin Throw, the Nerf Inflatable Target Challenge, a Bouncy Castle & Slide, and a General Knowledge & Sports Quiz. By the end of the morning, the children had worked together to earn an impressive 1,505 points.
In the afternoon, the challenge continued with our traditional Sports Day races. The aim was to reach 3,000 points to win the Sacred Heart Sports Day Trophy, but the children exceeded all expectations, finishing the day with an incredible 4,226 points! Their enthusiasm, determination and teamwork throughout the day were simply outstanding.
Throughout the day, we focused on our key values of resilience, teamwork, determination, respect and encouragement. It was fantastic to see these qualities demonstrated by every child, whether they were taking on a new challenge, supporting a friend or celebrating each other's achievements.
We were also delighted to welcome parents for the afternoon events. A huge thank you to everyone who came along and made the afternoon such a wonderful success. Your enthusiasm, encouragement and positivity created an amazing atmosphere where every child felt supported and inspired to give their very best.
There were so many success stories throughout the day—individual achievements, fantastic teamwork, and classes celebrating together. Most importantly, the smiles on the children's faces said it all. Their confidence, excitement and enjoyment made this a truly memorable event for everyone involved.
Thank you to all of our staff, parents and, of course, our amazing children for making Sports Day 2026 such a special occasion. We are already looking forward to creating more unforgettable memories together at future events!
Here are some of the moments from this week’s Sports Day captured by ICS.

Headteacher’s Memo – June 12, 2026
Dear Parent/Carer,
This week, our school has been exploring the theme of making healthy choices—an important foundation for both wellbeing and lifelong success. Across all year groups, pupils have been learning about how the decisions they make each day can positively impact their physical health, mental wellbeing and overall happiness.
In classrooms and beyond, children have been discussing nutritious food choices, the importance of staying active, and ways to look after their emotional health. It has been encouraging to see pupils reflecting on their habits, setting personal goals and supporting one another in making positive decisions.
As a school, we are committed to helping our pupils develop the knowledge and confidence they need to lead healthy, balanced lives. By working in partnership with families, we can reinforce these messages and ensure that our children are equipped to make thoughtful, informed choices now and in the future.
The following pupils have been commended for their ability to make healthy choices:
Reception- Skylah who chose to swop her chocolate and popcorn for more healthy choices and brought a banana and apple into school yesterday.
Year 1/ 2 – Theo, for working hard to make healthy choices in his learning and outside the classroom.
Year 3/ 4 – Mia, for making healthy choices regarding her activities and her work ethic.
Year 5/6 = Kenny, for making really sensible decisions about his behaviours which have helped him focus on his learning and be an excellent role model for younger children.
Secret Students
A student is chosen anonymously and randomly at the start of each school day. The class teacher will then monitor the positive behaviour of the secret student throughout the day and that student is named if they have demonstrated our school values throughout the day.

Headteacher’s Memo – June 05, 2026
Dear Parent/Carer,
This week, our school has been focusing on the important theme of independence—a value that underpins both academic success and personal growth. Across all year groups, pupils have been exploring what it means to take ownership of their learning, make responsible choices and develop confidence in their own abilities.
From our youngest learners beginning to tackle tasks on their own, to our older pupils demonstrating resilience and initiative in their studies, it has been inspiring to see independence being nurtured in so many ways. Staff have been encouraging children to think for themselves, solve problems creatively and reflect on their achievements—skills that will serve them well both in school and beyond.
We believe that fostering independence is key to helping every child become a capable, self-assured individual. By working together—school and home—we can continue to build these vital life skills and support our pupils in reaching their full potential.
We hope you enjoy reading about how this theme has come to life across the school this week.
The following pupils have been commended for their ability to demonstrate independence:
Reception- Evie, for challenging herself to work independently in writing and writing some excellent sentences. Evie is also very independent in class. Well done.
Year 1/ 2 - Albie, for showing independence during writing sessions by independently collecting and using sound mats and word banks when he was unsure on how to spell words.
Year 3/ 4 – Cody, for working independently in his maths and using equipment when necessary to help solve problems.
Year 5/6 = Maryanne for working so confidently and independently on her market research questionnaire in our Enterprise Challenge preparations. She is a real asset to her team and is already showing excellent entrepreneurial skills!
Secret Students
A student is chosen anonymously and randomly at the start of each school day. The class teacher will then monitor the positive behaviour of the secret student throughout the day and that student is named if they have demonstrated our school values throughout the day.

Multi-Sports Tournament – Wednesday 4th June
The children had the opportunity to take part in a variety of exciting activities, including Zorb, traditional dodgeball, Nerf Battle and football. It was a fantastic day that kept everyone active, engaged and having fun throughout.
The pupils from Sacred Heart represented the school exceptionally well, showing fantastic teamwork, encouragement and sportsmanship across all activities. It was great to see the children supporting one another, challenging themselves and participating with such enthusiasm.
The atmosphere throughout the event was positive, inclusive and energetic, creating an environment where every child could get involved, build confidence and enjoy being active. Seeing so many smiling faces made the day a huge success.
We're also delighted that Sacred Heart achieved a Gold Award certificate, which is a fantastic recognition of the children's efforts, attitude and participation.
Overall, it was an excellent event and one that we thoroughly enjoyed delivering. We are already looking forward to returning for Sports Day, which promises to be another brilliant occasion.
Sacred Heart Sports Day – Wednesday 17th June
We are very excited to be holding our Sacred Heart Sports Day on Wednesday 17th June and look forward to welcoming parents and families to support the children during the afternoon events.
This year’s Sports Day has been carefully planned to ensure that every child feels included, confident and successful. The focus throughout the day will be on participation, teamwork, enjoyment and positive encouragement, helping all children to have a memorable and enjoyable experience.
The morning session will involve a range of fun carousel activities led by staff and the ICS coaching team. Children will take part in a variety of exciting challenges including obstacle courses, target games, badminton activities, inflatable challenges and teamwork tasks. These activities are designed to promote confidence, cooperation and enjoyment for all children, regardless of sporting ability.
Children will have opportunities to practise many of the activities during PE lessons beforehand so that they feel prepared and excited for the day.
In the afternoon, we will move into our more traditional Sports Day races, beginning at approximately 1:15pm. Parents are warmly invited to attend and cheer the children on as they take part in events such as sprint races, relays, sack races, egg and spoon races and balance races. We kindly ask that all spectators remain behind the designated viewing areas and continue to support all children positively throughout the event.
Weather permitting, we are also hoping to invite parents onto the field during lunchtime for a family picnic before the afternoon races begin. Further information regarding this arrangement, along with wet weather plans, will be shared closer to the event.
Sports Day is always a wonderful opportunity for the children to demonstrate resilience, teamwork, determination and sportsmanship, and we are very much looking forward to celebrating these qualities together as a school community.
Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to an enjoyable and successful day for all involved.
Heritage Skills Day Confirmation
Claire Ellis and Joe Warburton will attend on the 9th June. Claire is an artist who works in schools and delivers heritage skills. I am project manager employed by Breckland and Historic England and previously a history teacher. We both hold fully enhanced DBS checks which we can bring on the day.
We will deliver an introduction assembly about the Swaffham – A Historic Market Town project and how young people can be involved. (This can be more than the allocated classes if you wish and will last 10-15 mins)
We will then deliver a heritage skills class based around the pupils making pinch pots from air drying clay. They can then take these home at the end of the session. They will be decorated with relief patterns using natural materials and flowers. We plan to use lavender, sage and rosemary. There will also be a range of historic materials such as roman pottery which the pupils can also see and hold.

Headteacher’s Memo – May 15, 2026
Dear Parent/Carer,
It has been another positive and purposeful week in school, with a strong focus on wellbeing as we have marked Mental Health Awareness Week. In our assembly, we explored the importance of steadiness—learning how to stay calm and centred, even when things feel challenging. We spoke with the children about simple ways to manage their emotions, support one another and build resilience, all of which are vital skills both in and beyond the classroom. It has been encouraging to see pupils reflecting on these ideas and putting them into practice throughout the week.
I would also like to commend our Year 6 pupils, who approached their SATs with maturity, determination and composure. The assessments ran very smoothly, and every child involved handled the process extremely well. We are proud of the positive attitude they showed, and the way they supported one another during this important time.
Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support. It makes a real difference to the children’s confidence and success.
The following pupils have been commended for their steadiness this week:
-
Reception =. Evie has remained steady this week no matter the challenge. She is a great role model to her class, and I am very proud of her.
-
Year 1/ 2 = Jennifer – Jennifer has worked hard to be steady throughout this week. She has shown calm behaviours even when she articulated that she was 'in the red zone' and when she was feeling sad in the blue zone. She has continued to show the school expectations each day. Jennifer, you have been a wonderful role model to others, well done!
-
Year 3/ 4 = Amanda – She has been steady this week and has shown calm behaviours in class. A great role model for others in class. Well done!
-
Year 5/6 =ALL OF YEAR 6! Kenny, Micah, Harrison, Thomas, Maryanne and Tianna. You have held your nerve, stayed positive and calm and got the job done! You should feel exceptionally proud of how you have conducted yourselves in your SATs exams this week. I could not have asked for more of you and genuinely feel proud to be your teacher!
Reception – Evie, Adam, Lottie
Year 1/2 – Archie, Albie, Porsia, Emily
Year 3/4 – Harley, Erica, Mia
Year 5/6 – Kenny, Micah
Well done to you all!

Multi-Sports Tournament – Wednesday 4th June
Following our earlier notice, we are excited to share further details about our upcoming Multi-Sports Day on Wednesday 4th June. This year, we are proud to be hosting a multi-school tournament here at our school.
Our Year 5 and Year 6 pupils will be representing us and taking part in a range of sporting activities, including football, handball, zorbing, short tennis and badminton. They will be competing alongside teams from Spoole, Castle Acre, Narborough and Beetley, and we are very much looking forward to welcoming these schools.
Please can all Year 5 and Year 6 pupils come to school dressed in their PE kits on the day.
All other year groups will follow a normal timetable in school.
We are sure it will be a fantastic day of sport, teamwork and enjoyment, and we wish our teams the very best of luck!
Supporting Smooth Transitions
As we move towards the end of the academic year, we are making a small, planned adjustment to how our support staff are based across school. These routine changes help us prepare children next academic year, ensuring they feel confident and familiar with the adults who will support them.
For the remainder of this year, Miss Patel will be based in Reception, working alongside Miss Vincent and Mrs Tullis. This will strengthen the Reception team and provide additional consistency and support as children continue to grow in independence.
Miss Thorne will see our Reception children at break and lunch times, while also spending more time during lessons working with pupils in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. This will help children (particularly those preparing to move into Year 1) build positive relationships with a wider range of adults across the school.
We know from research by the Education Endowment Federation, that children benefit from working with a team of familiar adults, rather than becoming reliant on just one person. This approach supports resilience, independence and confidence as they move through the school.
As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to speak to a member of the team.

Headteacher’s Memo – May 07, 2026
Dear Parent/Carer,
As we approach SATs week, there is a real sense of purpose around the school. Pupils have been working hard in class and staff have been ensuring that everyone feels prepared, supported and reassured. Alongside revision and practice, we continue to emphasise calm routines, positivity and balance, so that our children can approach the week ahead feeling ready to do their very best. Year 6 parents have received a separate letter detailing the timetable and locations for our Year 6 pupils that week.
This week’s assembly focused on the importance of understanding and managing our emotions. The children explored how feelings can change throughout the day, learned practical strategies for expressing themselves positively, and were reminded that it is always okay to ask for help. These conversations are an essential part of supporting wellbeing and helping our pupils develop resilience, empathy and confidence—skills that will serve them well both in school and beyond.
The following pupils have been commended for dealing well with their emotions:
-
Reception = Maeve – for recognising she felt sad and using different strategies in class to try and help her feel more settled in class.
-
Year 1/ 2 =Gaddeil – for speaking to an adult about how he was feeling when he found something difficult.
-
Year 3/ 4 = Dominik – for speaking to an adult and recognising his emotions when he felt upset
-
Year 5/6 = Eleanor – for coping well with big and potentially overwhelming feelings after her swimming lesson this week.

Headteacher’s Newsletter – May 01, 2026
Dear Parent/Carer,
Over the coming weeks, our whole school assemblies will closely follow our Zones of Regulation curriculum. Last week, children focused on identifying and naming their feelings, and this week we are exploring the important difference between how we feel and how we behave. The Zones of Regulation is a programme that helps children understand their emotions, recognise how they are feeling, and learn strategies to manage those feelings in a safe and appropriate way. A key message we share with children is that all feelings are okay, but not all behaviours are okay. By developing this emotional awareness and self‑control, we are supporting pupils to build strong emotional literacy skills, which help them to feel safe, learn effectively, and interact positively with others.
The following pupils have been commended for their use of the zones of regulation this week:
- Reception = Riley for taking part in all our Zones of Regulation learning and for explaining why you feel happy or sad.
- Year 1/ 2 = Porsia and Delilah for thinking carefully about the different zones when discussing what we might feel in our bodies when we are in different zones.
- Year 3/ 4 = Rubee for recognising the feelings and emotions of herself and others and acting upon her observations.
- Year 5/6 = Micah for recognising his own emotions and using his self-regulation tools after our trip to Pensthorpe.

Pensthorpe Trip
Iceni, Walsingham and Ceres enjoyed a fantastic day out to Pensthorpe on Thursday. Each year group had an opportunity to explore the park; observe wildlife and plants and engage in a science learning activity.
Iceni spent the day learning how to classify birds and compare them to other animals. We went on a walk around the park, explored bird hides, embraced our inner otter and crawled through an otter hide sculpture. In the afternoon we fed the different birds both on land and on the bridge watching them dive below the water surface.
Walsingham spent their day building their knowledge of plants and pollinators, they enjoyed exploring the park and creating art using natural objects and sunlight.
Ceres learnt about habitats, their day included pond dipping where they found leeches, which was a great talking point. They had a very successful day and will be using their experience for an accessed piece of writing this next week.
The flamingos and the playpark were a huge hit across all ages, plus the added bonus of beautiful sunshine.
A big thank you to Miss Rice for organising and leading this trip.

Headteacher’s Memo – April 23rd 2026
Dear Parent/Carer,
Ms Stuart led Monday’s assembly on the theme of friendship, the assembly reinforced the importance of being a good friend and considering the thoughts of others. See the image below to understand how missed learning may affect your child. Maths homework To support your child's Maths learning we have set them up on an interactive platform called MyMaths. This should help your child to structure their maths work and enable you to see how they are progressing. Coming home this evening is a letter detailing their username and password. Please go to www.mymaths.co.uk and follow the instructions in your letter to help your child to log-in, initially using the school username and password. You will find games and activities on the dashboard, which can be completed at any time. They will then need to log in to their portal and complete activities set for them by their teacher. This may be a lesson to watch and then a homework activity.
Please find engagement statistics below – we need these figures to increase so if there any barriers, please do let us know so that we can help.
Times Tables Rock Stars Times Tables Rock Stars is an award-winning maths learning platform where children can practise their times tables like a rock star! The programme takes the worry out of learning times tables and has a proven track record of boosting children’s fluency and recall in multiplication and division. Your child should now have login details next week, please let us know if that is not the case. This is the same as last year. Please encourage your child to interact with the platform.
Numbots This week, Reception have been given their own username and password for Numbots which they can access from home. This game is from the same people who created Times Tables Rock Stars and will help children progress from counting to calculating. Please encourage them to engage as much as possible at home. The statistics this week (on the right) show some improvement in engagement (highlighted in green from most classes). Homework is integral to success and that success helps with positive emotions such as motivation and pride. All parents need to encourage their children to engage and let us know if there are any barriers to engagement. The whole school reward for 100% will be a school goldfish which has been requested through the school council. Year 4 MTCs Year 4 students have to undertake multiplication tables check in the summer term.
