Headteacher’s Newsletter – June 26, 2026
Dear Parent/Carer,
Further to the news last week that the senior leadership of the school will continue next year, I would also like to share some additional details about staffing.
School Organisation for the Year Ahead
As part of our continued commitment to providing the very best for every child, we will be making some small changes to our class structure from September. These changes reflect the size of our cohorts and ensure we are using our staffing and resources in the most effective way.
As our school continues to grow and evolve, it is important that we remain flexible so that we can respond to changing needs while maintaining high standards for all pupils.
From September, classes will be organised as follows:
-
EYFS: Mrs Tullis
-
Key Stage 1: Miss Rice
-
Key Stage 2: Mrs Young
This structure, known as a mixed-age model, is widely used in schools of a similar size and is a very effective way of supporting children’s learning. It allows for strong relationships to develop, encourages collaboration between pupils, and ensures learning is carefully tailored to meet individual needs.
We are very well supported in delivering this approach. Through Sapientia Education Trust, the school will benefit from additional expertise and guidance to strengthen mixed-age teaching. This work has already begun and will continue into the new academic year. Highly skilled practitioners from across the trust will work alongside our staff, supporting planning, teaching and curriculum development to ensure the highest quality of education for all pupils.
Sapientia schools have very strong experience in this area, and many have recently been inspected while operating mixed-age classes, with positive outcomes. This gives us real confidence that this model, when delivered well, supports pupils to achieve highly and experience a broad, well-sequenced curriculum.
We will also be strengthening our wider team. Alongside Mrs Powley, Miss Patel and Mrs Vincent, we are appointing additional staff to further support learning and wellbeing. These roles include a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant, Teaching Assistants and a Pupil and Parent Support Advisor. This means we will have strong support both in the classroom and through targeted interventions.
We are in a very strong position going into September. Every class will be led by a permanent, qualified teacher, with no reliance on agency staff.
I am really excited about the year ahead. With a stable team, additional support, and the expertise we benefit from as part of the trust, we are continuing to build a strong and successful school for all our children
Transition days - 1st and 2nd of July
While our Year 6 pupils will be attending their transition days at the local high school, the rest of the school will be meeting their new teachers and engaging in a range of activities to prepare them for the next academic year.
This week, our school has been celebrating the fantastic theme his week, our theme is all about representation.
Representation means making sure everyone feels seen, heard, and included. It’s about recognising that we are all different—and celebrating those differences. When children see people like themselves in books, lessons, and the world around them, it helps them feel proud of who they are. When we learn about people who are different from us, it helps us to understand and respect one another.
The following pupils have been commended for their positive representation this week:
-
Reception – Maeve for her kind and poor contributions in class
-
Iceni – Archie has worked hard this week to support others in play and in class when they needed a friend to help them and he sort them out when they needed someone to play with.
-
Walsingham – Layla – Jo for talking positively about disabilities and sharing her feelings.
-
Ceres - Eleanor for making adults aware of what she needed and supporting children from younger classes when they needed a reminder to believe in themselves!
Secret Students
A student is chosen anonymously and randomly at the start of each school day. The class teacher will then monitor the positive behaviour of the secret student throughout the day and that student is named if they have demonstrated our school values throughout the day.
The secret students who were celebrated in our celebration assembly this week were:
Reception – Ruby-Mae
Year 1/2 – Pixie, Rocco, Emily, Albie
Year 3/4 – Seb, Stevie, Christian
Year 5/6 – Maryanne
Well done to you all!

Headteacher’s Memo – June 19, 2026
Dear Parent/Carer,
As we come towards the end of the academic year, I am delighted to share that both myself, as your Headteacher, and Ms Stuart, as Assistant Headteacher, will continue to lead Sacred Heart beyond this year and into the next academic year as we join Sapientia Education Trust.
A great deal of work has taken place this year, and together, as a school community, we have made significant progress. This is clearly reflected in our outcomes: our Year 1 phonics results show that the number of pupils achieving the expected standard has more than doubled, and many of our Year 2 pupils who did not meet this standard last year have now successfully reached it. In addition, our Early Years Foundation Stage data shows a marked improvement compared to previous years.
We now look ahead with confidence to the next stage of our school improvement journey. We are excited about the opportunities and developments that lie ahead as part of Sapientia Education Trust. In the coming weeks, the Trust will be writing to parents to share further information and to offer an opportunity for you to contribute to shaping the school’s future, including its values and name.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
This week, our school has been celebrating the fantastic theme of sportsmanship—and what better way to bring this to life than through our highly successful Sports Day. It was a truly memorable event, filled with energy, enthusiasm and a wonderful sense of community spirit.
Throughout the day, our pupils demonstrated not only determination and teamwork, but also the true values of sportsmanship: encouraging one another, showing respect to competitors and celebrating effort as much as achievement. It was inspiring to see so many children stepping out of their comfort zones, supporting their peers and taking pride in representing their houses.
We are incredibly proud of all our pupils for the positive attitudes they displayed, as well as grateful to staff and families who helped make the day such a success. Events like this remind us that sport is about far more than winning—it is about building character, resilience and a strong sense of fairness.
The following pupils have been commended for their ability to make healthy choices:
Reception – Skylah for taking part in every race, for never giving up and cheering on all her friends across the school.
Year 1/ 2 - Gaddiel for demonstrating wonderful sportsmanship when cheering on his peers during the races and encouraging them afterwards and before when others were struggling.
Year 3/ 4 – Dominik – fantastic achievements in Sports Day and cheering on and supporting his friends.
Year 5/6 - Sienna for ALWAYS encouraging older and younger children in their races and helping out during races when participants dropped equipment, fell over or needed support or encouragement.
Reception – Delilah, Rena, Vivienne, Evie
Year 1/2 – Liberty, Jennifer, Archie, Riley
Year 3/4 – Dominik, Amanda, Frankie
Year 5/6 – Eleanor, Tiana
Well done to you all!
Sacred Heart Sports Day 2026 – A Day to Remember!
What an incredible Sports Day we enjoyed at Sacred Heart!
The morning was packed with exciting activities designed to challenge, engage and inspire our children. Pupils took part in Zorb Football, Zorb Javelin Throw, the Nerf Inflatable Target Challenge, a Bouncy Castle & Slide, and a General Knowledge & Sports Quiz. By the end of the morning, the children had worked together to earn an impressive 1,505 points.
In the afternoon, the challenge continued with our traditional Sports Day races. The aim was to reach 3,000 points to win the Sacred Heart Sports Day Trophy, but the children exceeded all expectations, finishing the day with an incredible 4,226 points! Their enthusiasm, determination and teamwork throughout the day were simply outstanding.
Throughout the day, we focused on our key values of resilience, teamwork, determination, respect and encouragement. It was fantastic to see these qualities demonstrated by every child, whether they were taking on a new challenge, supporting a friend or celebrating each other's achievements.
We were also delighted to welcome parents for the afternoon events. A huge thank you to everyone who came along and made the afternoon such a wonderful success. Your enthusiasm, encouragement and positivity created an amazing atmosphere where every child felt supported and inspired to give their very best.
There were so many success stories throughout the day—individual achievements, fantastic teamwork, and classes celebrating together. Most importantly, the smiles on the children's faces said it all. Their confidence, excitement and enjoyment made this a truly memorable event for everyone involved.
Thank you to all of our staff, parents and, of course, our amazing children for making Sports Day 2026 such a special occasion. We are already looking forward to creating more unforgettable memories together at future events!
Here are some of the moments from this week’s Sports Day captured by ICS.

Headteacher’s Memo – June 12, 2026
Dear Parent/Carer,
This week, our school has been exploring the theme of making healthy choices—an important foundation for both wellbeing and lifelong success. Across all year groups, pupils have been learning about how the decisions they make each day can positively impact their physical health, mental wellbeing and overall happiness.
In classrooms and beyond, children have been discussing nutritious food choices, the importance of staying active, and ways to look after their emotional health. It has been encouraging to see pupils reflecting on their habits, setting personal goals and supporting one another in making positive decisions.
As a school, we are committed to helping our pupils develop the knowledge and confidence they need to lead healthy, balanced lives. By working in partnership with families, we can reinforce these messages and ensure that our children are equipped to make thoughtful, informed choices now and in the future.
The following pupils have been commended for their ability to make healthy choices:
Reception- Skylah who chose to swop her chocolate and popcorn for more healthy choices and brought a banana and apple into school yesterday.
Year 1/ 2 – Theo, for working hard to make healthy choices in his learning and outside the classroom.
Year 3/ 4 – Mia, for making healthy choices regarding her activities and her work ethic.
Year 5/6 = Kenny, for making really sensible decisions about his behaviours which have helped him focus on his learning and be an excellent role model for younger children.
Secret Students
A student is chosen anonymously and randomly at the start of each school day. The class teacher will then monitor the positive behaviour of the secret student throughout the day and that student is named if they have demonstrated our school values throughout the day.

Headteacher’s Memo – June 05, 2026
Dear Parent/Carer,
This week, our school has been focusing on the important theme of independence—a value that underpins both academic success and personal growth. Across all year groups, pupils have been exploring what it means to take ownership of their learning, make responsible choices and develop confidence in their own abilities.
From our youngest learners beginning to tackle tasks on their own, to our older pupils demonstrating resilience and initiative in their studies, it has been inspiring to see independence being nurtured in so many ways. Staff have been encouraging children to think for themselves, solve problems creatively and reflect on their achievements—skills that will serve them well both in school and beyond.
We believe that fostering independence is key to helping every child become a capable, self-assured individual. By working together—school and home—we can continue to build these vital life skills and support our pupils in reaching their full potential.
We hope you enjoy reading about how this theme has come to life across the school this week.
The following pupils have been commended for their ability to demonstrate independence:
Reception- Evie, for challenging herself to work independently in writing and writing some excellent sentences. Evie is also very independent in class. Well done.
Year 1/ 2 - Albie, for showing independence during writing sessions by independently collecting and using sound mats and word banks when he was unsure on how to spell words.
Year 3/ 4 – Cody, for working independently in his maths and using equipment when necessary to help solve problems.
Year 5/6 = Maryanne for working so confidently and independently on her market research questionnaire in our Enterprise Challenge preparations. She is a real asset to her team and is already showing excellent entrepreneurial skills!
Secret Students
A student is chosen anonymously and randomly at the start of each school day. The class teacher will then monitor the positive behaviour of the secret student throughout the day and that student is named if they have demonstrated our school values throughout the day.

Multi-Sports Tournament – Wednesday 4th June
The children had the opportunity to take part in a variety of exciting activities, including Zorb, traditional dodgeball, Nerf Battle and football. It was a fantastic day that kept everyone active, engaged and having fun throughout.
The pupils from Sacred Heart represented the school exceptionally well, showing fantastic teamwork, encouragement and sportsmanship across all activities. It was great to see the children supporting one another, challenging themselves and participating with such enthusiasm.
The atmosphere throughout the event was positive, inclusive and energetic, creating an environment where every child could get involved, build confidence and enjoy being active. Seeing so many smiling faces made the day a huge success.
We're also delighted that Sacred Heart achieved a Gold Award certificate, which is a fantastic recognition of the children's efforts, attitude and participation.
Overall, it was an excellent event and one that we thoroughly enjoyed delivering. We are already looking forward to returning for Sports Day, which promises to be another brilliant occasion.
Sacred Heart Sports Day – Wednesday 17th June
We are very excited to be holding our Sacred Heart Sports Day on Wednesday 17th June and look forward to welcoming parents and families to support the children during the afternoon events.
This year’s Sports Day has been carefully planned to ensure that every child feels included, confident and successful. The focus throughout the day will be on participation, teamwork, enjoyment and positive encouragement, helping all children to have a memorable and enjoyable experience.
The morning session will involve a range of fun carousel activities led by staff and the ICS coaching team. Children will take part in a variety of exciting challenges including obstacle courses, target games, badminton activities, inflatable challenges and teamwork tasks. These activities are designed to promote confidence, cooperation and enjoyment for all children, regardless of sporting ability.
Children will have opportunities to practise many of the activities during PE lessons beforehand so that they feel prepared and excited for the day.
In the afternoon, we will move into our more traditional Sports Day races, beginning at approximately 1:15pm. Parents are warmly invited to attend and cheer the children on as they take part in events such as sprint races, relays, sack races, egg and spoon races and balance races. We kindly ask that all spectators remain behind the designated viewing areas and continue to support all children positively throughout the event.
Weather permitting, we are also hoping to invite parents onto the field during lunchtime for a family picnic before the afternoon races begin. Further information regarding this arrangement, along with wet weather plans, will be shared closer to the event.
Sports Day is always a wonderful opportunity for the children to demonstrate resilience, teamwork, determination and sportsmanship, and we are very much looking forward to celebrating these qualities together as a school community.
Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to an enjoyable and successful day for all involved.
Heritage Skills Day Confirmation
Claire Ellis and Joe Warburton will attend on the 9th June. Claire is an artist who works in schools and delivers heritage skills. I am project manager employed by Breckland and Historic England and previously a history teacher. We both hold fully enhanced DBS checks which we can bring on the day.
We will deliver an introduction assembly about the Swaffham – A Historic Market Town project and how young people can be involved. (This can be more than the allocated classes if you wish and will last 10-15 mins)
We will then deliver a heritage skills class based around the pupils making pinch pots from air drying clay. They can then take these home at the end of the session. They will be decorated with relief patterns using natural materials and flowers. We plan to use lavender, sage and rosemary. There will also be a range of historic materials such as roman pottery which the pupils can also see and hold.
