Headteacher’s Newsletter – June 26, 2026
Dear Parent/Carer,
Further to the news last week that the senior leadership of the school will continue next year, I would also like to share some additional details about staffing.
School Organisation for the Year Ahead
As part of our continued commitment to providing the very best for every child, we will be making some small changes to our class structure from September. These changes reflect the size of our cohorts and ensure we are using our staffing and resources in the most effective way.
As our school continues to grow and evolve, it is important that we remain flexible so that we can respond to changing needs while maintaining high standards for all pupils.
From September, classes will be organised as follows:
-
EYFS: Mrs Tullis
-
Key Stage 1: Miss Rice
-
Key Stage 2: Mrs Young
This structure, known as a mixed-age model, is widely used in schools of a similar size and is a very effective way of supporting children’s learning. It allows for strong relationships to develop, encourages collaboration between pupils, and ensures learning is carefully tailored to meet individual needs.
We are very well supported in delivering this approach. Through Sapientia Education Trust, the school will benefit from additional expertise and guidance to strengthen mixed-age teaching. This work has already begun and will continue into the new academic year. Highly skilled practitioners from across the trust will work alongside our staff, supporting planning, teaching and curriculum development to ensure the highest quality of education for all pupils.
Sapientia schools have very strong experience in this area, and many have recently been inspected while operating mixed-age classes, with positive outcomes. This gives us real confidence that this model, when delivered well, supports pupils to achieve highly and experience a broad, well-sequenced curriculum.
We will also be strengthening our wider team. Alongside Mrs Powley, Miss Patel and Mrs Vincent, we are appointing additional staff to further support learning and wellbeing. These roles include a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant, Teaching Assistants and a Pupil and Parent Support Advisor. This means we will have strong support both in the classroom and through targeted interventions.
We are in a very strong position going into September. Every class will be led by a permanent, qualified teacher, with no reliance on agency staff.
I am really excited about the year ahead. With a stable team, additional support, and the expertise we benefit from as part of the trust, we are continuing to build a strong and successful school for all our children
Transition days - 1st and 2nd of July
While our Year 6 pupils will be attending their transition days at the local high school, the rest of the school will be meeting their new teachers and engaging in a range of activities to prepare them for the next academic year.
This week, our school has been celebrating the fantastic theme his week, our theme is all about representation.
Representation means making sure everyone feels seen, heard, and included. It’s about recognising that we are all different—and celebrating those differences. When children see people like themselves in books, lessons, and the world around them, it helps them feel proud of who they are. When we learn about people who are different from us, it helps us to understand and respect one another.
The following pupils have been commended for their positive representation this week:
-
Reception – Maeve for her kind and poor contributions in class
-
Iceni – Archie has worked hard this week to support others in play and in class when they needed a friend to help them and he sort them out when they needed someone to play with.
-
Walsingham – Layla – Jo for talking positively about disabilities and sharing her feelings.
-
Ceres - Eleanor for making adults aware of what she needed and supporting children from younger classes when they needed a reminder to believe in themselves!
Secret Students
A student is chosen anonymously and randomly at the start of each school day. The class teacher will then monitor the positive behaviour of the secret student throughout the day and that student is named if they have demonstrated our school values throughout the day.
The secret students who were celebrated in our celebration assembly this week were:
Reception – Ruby-Mae
Year 1/2 – Pixie, Rocco, Emily, Albie
Year 3/4 – Seb, Stevie, Christian
Year 5/6 – Maryanne
Well done to you all!
Examples of good work this week…
Home Learning
We would like to remind you of the home learning activities available for your child/ren. We strongly encourage engagement with these online platforms. This will build confidence and skills in the core subjects. If you need support accessing these, please speak to your child's teacher. Daily reading for all is also encouraged.
Pedlars have access to NumBots.
Iceni have access to MyMaths.
Walsingham have access to TTRS, MyMaths and Lexia.
Ceres have access to TTRS, MyMaths, Lexia, SATS Companion and Mirodo.
Update
Attendance Matters
We have started to look at class attendance is a slightly different way with a focus on the progress made by the class on the previous week. Pedlars made the most progress this week.
Please remember how important it is for children to attend school every day so they can keep up with their learning. If you have any concerns about attendance or need support, please get in touch - we are here to help. See the image below to understand how missed learning may affect your child.
Breakfast Club
As we are now at capacity, if you would like your child to attend, you will need to contact the school office to have your name put on the list. Equally, if you child no longer wishes to attend, please inform the office to vacate their space for another child.
After school clubs
These need to be booked each time you would like your child to attend. If they are not booked, then your child will not be able to participate.
We will be running:
-
Multi-Sports Club on Mondays – a fun mix of activities to develop agility, teamwork, and coordination.
-
Football Club on Wednesdays – focusing on skills, fitness, and, of course, having a great time on the pitch!
Timings
-
3:30pm – 4:30pm each session
-
Please ensure children are ready to change after school and remain supervised until the coaches arrive.

Heritage Skills Day 30th June
Due to a late postponement, we now have a new date for the Heritage Skills event of the 30th of June. Claire is an artist who works in schools and delivers heritage skills. Joe is a project manager employed by Breckland and Historic England and previously a history teacher.
They will deliver an introduction assembly about the Swaffham – A Historic Market Town project and how young people can be involved.
They will deliver a heritage skills class based around the pupils making pinch pots from air drying clay. Pupils will be able to take these home at the end of the session. They will be decorated with relief patterns using natural materials and flowers. Pupils will use lavender, sage and rosemary. There will also be a range of historic materials such as roman pottery which the pupils can also see and hold.
